At a time when social change movements have grown a new sense of urgency, it is difficult for organizations to achieve the goals of their missions without leaning on other likeminded people and institutions for mutual support. Today, partnerships are the key to solving critical needs in the community, Foundation Center is pleased to host a full-day convening to explore collaboration in the social sector.

Join us for a very special event, which will spotlight how well-tended partnerships and collaboration create transformational impact in local communities. Collaborate for Change: The Future of Philanthropy will bring together grantmaking foundations, nonprofit organizations, and social change agents to:

  • Share personal stories and innovative solutions that showcase how strong partnerships between grantmakers and nonprofits create impact in communities within New York, and beyond.
  • Offer insights on how these relationships were developed and stewarded, with lessons on how a strategic partnership can translate to stronger connections with funders or potential funding partners.
  • Connect participants with other nonprofit professionals in their field, to foster conversation and plant the seeds of thoughtful, tactical collaboration in the sector.

The day’s event will be an interactive one, so come prepared both to learn from our lineup of adept guest speakers, and to share your own insights with panelists and peers. At the end of the day, you are invited to join us for a networking reception with wine and refreshments.

If you would like to attend the full day’s proceedings, please register for both the morning and afternoon sessions. If you can only attend for part of the day, then you can register for your session of choice.

In this panel discussion, foundations and nonprofits who have upended the traditional grantmaker-grantee power dynamic to build a more constructive, symbiotic partnership together tell their stories. Learn how collaborative relationships, which go beyond mere grantmaking, ultimately result in stronger impact in communities. Panelists will share thoughts on the rationale behind their collaborations, how they make these partnerships work, what challenges they have faced along the way, and the results they’ve seen from their efforts together.

Plant the seeds for your own potential collaborations through a guided networking activity, facilitated by David Schachter of NYU’s Wagner School of Public Service. Learn new methods for making your networking more meaningful, get to know your peers in the sector, and start thinking about how to address today’s urgent social issues together. Keep your business cards handy, and begin taking steps toward future partnerships to move your mission forward.

1:30 – 2:15 pm: Funder-Grantee Story Spotlight: Einhorn Family Charitable Trust & ParentCorps

ParentCorps is a family-centered, school-based program offered within New York City’s Pre-K For All system, and the Einhorn Family Charitable Trust is one of the program’s committed partners.

Join us for a special case study to examine the inner workings of a close, symbiotic funder-grantee collaboration. In this conversation between the leaders of the Einhorn Family Charitable Trust and ParentCorps, gain insights as to what elements can generate a harmonious, highly impactful collaboration that achieves the goals and missions of a nonprofit and its funder alike, with tangible results for the community that they serve.

The organizations will share how their partnership was born, the ways in which they navigate the relationship, and lessons learned along the way.

This panel will discuss how specific resources from capacity-building organizations like Foundation Center and the Support Center for Nonprofit Management can help connect nonprofits to prospective partners, and provide practical information and templates for organizations embarking on a partnership. Learn some techniques for gathering information on potential collaborators, and get advice on how to start a new partnership in a way that will meet the needs and goals of all organizations involved.
