Some foundations give nationally or internationally, and others give to select states or countries. However, most foundations give to organizations in the state where they are located.
To find foundations that are in your state, try these resources:
Foundation Directory Online Quick Start: Search by name, several types of location fields, or EIN to get basic information (contact details, fields of interest, links to recent 990s).
Foundation Directory Online (FDO) subscription plans allow you to search grantmakers by their subject interests and several other fields. Use your state as a term in the "Grantmaker State" field. Use FDO for free at all Foundation Center libraries and Funding Information Network locations.
Interactive Map of Direct Grants by U.S. Grantmakers to Non U.S. Recipients: Click on a country to view more details on funders and grantees in a given region.
Requests for Proposals (RFPs): Announcements of funding opportunities. Also available as an RSS feed or free weekly e-newsletter.
- Check Community Foundation Locator, sponsored and maintained by the Council on Foundations, to see whether there is a community foundation serving your local area.
