"Anything is possible if you believe you can make it happen."
The message that Tarsha Proctor, 30, of Clinton, Maryland, tries to convey to the youth in her D.C.-area arts program is the same advice for would-be volunteers as well as herself.
What kind of philanthropic or volunteer work did/do you do?

Tarsha: I have the pleasure of working with young people, ages seven to 17, who have an interest and passion for the Arts. My organization, TAROTÉ (The Arts Reaching Out Through Education) hosts a five-week summer intensive program that assists in the academic and professional development of youth in cultural and performing arts.
What is the name and location of the organization?
Tarsha: TAROTÉ (The Arts Reaching Out Through Education), P.O. Box 10, Clinton, MD 20735
Tell us about the project, especially who benefited from this work.
Tarsha: Young people, ages seven to seventeen, in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area receive hands-on training from entertainment industry professionals.
What inspired you to get involved?
Tarsha: I witnessed the lack of funding in the public school sector and saw the need for programs in which young people could express themselves within cultural and performing arts.
How did you first get involved? Give us some details.
Tarsha: I attended a Performing Arts High School as a teen. While attending college I decided that I would one day start an organization that would help youth in the Arts.
What is/was the best thing about your experience?
Tarsha: The boost in their self-esteem. Knowing that I can help these individuals discover that anything is possible if you at first believe in yourself.
What new things have you learned as a result of your experience and how have you changed as a result?
Tarsha: I have learned the lesson that I am teaching my students, that is, anything is possible if you believe you can make it happen.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of getting involved in philanthropy or volunteering?
Tarsha: Always do what you love to do. Do what you would do if there was no pay involved. Follow your heart.
